Crew Applications Open - Form closing on November 30th 2025
Map below. The area outlined in red is the approximate play area - it's about 1.5km square, with significant areas of steep hilly woodlands. The google maps link to the venue is here.Â
Off Ringley Road West, Radcliffe, Manchester M26 1DY
Giant's Seat scout camp is a "backwoods" style scout camp, and has been host to many larp and reenactment events over the years. Run and maintained by a volunteer organisation, the site is very familiar with larpers and enjoy having a variety of events run in their space.
As with all scout camps, guests MUST treat the site with respect and care. The primary use for this site is for groups of children, and any behaviour or mess that would make the site unsafe for groups of children to use afterwards will not be tolerated.
With that in mind, we would request that participants visiting Giant's Seat:
Do not dispose of cigarette ends by stomping them into the grass. Please thoroughly stub them out and use a bin
Fire pits must not scorch the grass underneath them. Either raise your fire pit sufficiently and/or use a fireproof mat. The venue has several static fire pits and some fire barrels that can be used by visitors
CLEAN UP ANY LITTER, especially any glass or containers from alcoholic beverages. Not your litter? Still your problem.
If you break something, clog a toilet, set something on fire or notice any unsafe spills or broken equipment, TELL A REF ASAP.Â
The site is very accessible by perfectly normal roads, with the final approach to the site being about a mile of single-track farm road with many potholes. Please drive carefully on this track. There are stables nearby and many dog walkers use the nearby trails, you may encounter horse riders.Â
Please be extra careful driving and moving around horses, they are large hunks of twitchy muscles powered by a single brain cell. Give them as much space as possible and go very slowly, or even better, stop and let the rider pass you.
There is a hard standing car park that will fit maybe 15 cars, priority on these parking spaces will be for people who are:
Staying off-site and driving in every day
May need to leave during time-in for whatever reason (example, refs that might need to dash to a shop, people that need to go feed their cats and/or kids)
Giant's Seat are happy for us to park vehicles on the main field - where possible we're going to try and hide any cars on the field with tents to save a bit of immersion, but we might have to make do. Players sharing cars where possible would be a great help, but we appreciate hauling larp kit and a tent takes up a lot of space!
The site is almost accessible by public transport!
The nearest train station is Kearsley, approximately a 5-minute drive from the site. Local cab companies know the site fairly well and are usually happy to come all the way up the track to drop you off (you may need to ask nicely).
There are apparently local buses but I've never used them so you can figure them out on your own.
There's not a lot of pavement for people that are walking along Ringley Road West, and it's a 60mph a-road so can be a bit dicey. The mile worth of farm track is pretty rubbish if you're hauling larp gear, so would absolutely recommend getting a taxi, or asking a friend to come pick you up from the station/bus stop/road.
Hygiene: Â There are three showers and about 8 toilets, at least one of which is equipped with handrails and mobility assistive equipment
Laundry and drying: There's no laundry facilities, but we should be able to find places to hang stuff up to dry if you get soaked
Communication: There's 4g/5g mobile phone signal across most of the site, specific network coverage may vary but Vodafone is quite reliable. There's no wifi.
Kitchen and Food: The event is fully catered, and the kitchen is big and well equipped enough to feed piles of scouts and guides. We will be limiting player access to the kitchen so our chef can work their magic, but it should be possible for players to store any medications or other essential items in the fridge and access hot/cold drinks on demand.
Sleeping: There are bunkrooms in the site cabin, these are for refs and crew only. Players will be asked to sleep in their own tents. We will not be making exceptions to this.
Communal Areas: We will be setting up a command tent and a few other communal tents/awnings for IC communal spaces. The main hall in the cabin is OC. Food will be served in the OC hall. You can either hang out here and eat OC, or take your food and eat it wherever you want.
Photos from our site visit in October 2025. Some stuff might change by Spring 2026, but just to give you an idea of what it looks like and the terrain. There's a big field that's bisected by a fence, and a bunch of woods.
